Rare Scottish Vernons Patent Noiseless Ware Porcelain Aesthetic Movement Cup & Saucer c.1880, a band of rubber applied to the foot of the cup and saucer to avoid the noise of the cup and saucer 'clinking' together.

Vernonware – The Vernon family had a shop and business in Albert Street, Newton Stewart, Burgh, Scotland from 1862 to 1906. The trade was cabinet-making, but involved all house furnishings. In particular a patent was taken out in 1876 for the process of adding a rubber ring to the base of ewers, and referred to as Vernon's Patent Noiseless Ware.
