Rare Large Copeland Plaque c.1865 Painted by William Mussil
Diam: 60cm
William Mussil (1828-1906) designer, fine art artist and pottery painter is recognised as one of the Minton's finest pottery painters who was said that 'with a few flicks pf his brush he created the down on a bird's breast'.
This plaque represents one of very few known examples of Mussil's work on a Copeland plaque. The very high Victorian style suggests this plaque was produced pre Minton where Mussil's work was in a more Japanese 'Aesthetic Movement' style.
